About the role
You will be the studio backend lead on most of our larger engagements — the kind that need a real database, real auth, and a real billing flow. We are not a "ten microservices on day one" kind of studio; we ship boring durable backends that the next engineer can read, and then we leave them alone.
What you'll do
- Design and implement APIs (mostly REST, occasionally GraphQL) that frontend can consume cleanly.
- Own the database schema for new projects — Postgres-first, with a strong opinion about migrations.
- Set up CI / CD, monitoring, and on-call playbooks before the first launch.
- Pair with frontend engineers to design the contract before either side writes code.
- Carry deploy keys with appropriate seriousness.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years building production Node services (TypeScript preferred).
- Comfort with Postgres at the level of "I write the migration, I run the migration."
- Familiarity with at least one cloud provider (we mostly use Vercel + AWS / Hetzner).
- A taste for tests that catch bugs, not tests that exist for coverage numbers.
Nice to have
- Experience with payment integrations (Stripe, Paymob).
- Background in Rust or Go for performance-critical edges.
- Comfort writing SQL by hand (you will).
