Backend Engineer
Own the data layer of our client work in Node and Postgres, and keep it simple enough for the next engineer to read.

About the role
You will own the backend on client projects that need a real database, real auth and real payments. A good example is the commerce API and admin we built for Dropped, a Cairo coffee roaster.
We prefer plain, durable backends that the next engineer can read. You will work closely with the frontend engineers so the contract between the two sides is agreed before anyone writes code.
Our sites ship in Arabic and English, so your data models need to handle two languages from day one.
What you'll do
- Design and build APIs, mostly REST, that the frontend can use cleanly.
- Own the database schema on new projects, with a clear approach to migrations.
- Set up deploys, monitoring and a recovery plan before the first launch.
- Agree the API contract with the frontend engineers before either side starts.
- Treat production access and deploy keys with care.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years building production Node services, TypeScript preferred.
- Comfort with Postgres, including writing and running your own migrations.
- Experience with at least one cloud provider or running your own servers.
- Tests that catch real bugs, written for that reason.
Nice to have
- Experience with payment integrations such as Stripe or Paymob.
- Rust or Go for the parts that need to be fast.
- Comfort writing SQL by hand.
